Softsell was incorporated as a Private Limited Company under the Companies Act, 1956 on December 10, 1986 as Bangalore Softsell Private Limited. The company was converted into a Public Limited Company on January 14, 2000 and its name was changed to Bangalore Softsell Limited.
The First Decade (1987 - 1996): Ragothaman Subbian promoted the company with the main objective of developing software products and providing software services and solutions. To begin with, Softsell took up software consultancy in India as its primary thrust. Starting with software management support for banking software, Softsell executed assignments for many other software companies in Bangalore. Project management is one of the keys to success in global assignments and these assignments imprinted various techniques, tools and practices to succeed in software projects. The assignments were to build
- EDI application for US banks.
- ERP product for a Malaysian distributor.
- A Document management system.
- Export management system.
- Production applications.
Management of such global assignments imprinted a success path for the management to build a core team to take up assignments in the emerging Year 2000 market.
Formative years (1997 - 2000): Softsell assigned its executives to support and build a superior Year2000 remediation tool for a large software house in Bangalore. When this tool became a success, many similar projects were executed and Softsell got associated in remediation of COBOL applications for many overseas customers. These large assignments honed the project management skills of Softsell's executives. This also paved the way to break large projects into smaller compact units, which could be built and integrated into large complex projects. Customer compliance, signoff, review practices, escalation management, project planning, reporting and estimation techniques were now an integral part of Softsell project management.
Transition years (2001 till now): Softsell re-branded itself as a product-led solutions company.Amongst the management team, there was a wealth of knowledge from the many migration projects executed within Softsell & from their earlier experiences. These experiences ranged from migrating languages like Assembler to C in the early 80's, RPG applications (running on IBM AS/400) to C and even migration of Systemator 3GL to Visual Basic, C++ & ORACLE.
From such varied projects & experiences was borne the idea to create a language parser & translator tool that would be configurable for different languages and would also be configurable to suit what each customer may request.
The tool was christened LeMiTTM (Legacy Migration Technology) which would enable users to migrate in a low-cost, low-risk and rapid-delivery model. The migration service was a judicious mix of automation tools, migration methodologies and processes. Migration offerings are across various legacy to new-age languages i.e from COBOL upto Java & Visual Basic (x) to open platforms using JAVA & .NET technologies on Windows.
Softsell projects itself as a migration-centric organization. Softsell also has embarked on enhancing its brand value by building IP for its product suite.
